What is a Visa check card, and how is it different from a Visa credit card?
A Visa check card is a type of debit card that looks like a credit card, but acts like a check because the purchase amount is deducted from your checking account. With your Visa check card you can make purchases with your card anywhere Visa is accepted.
Since Visa check card purchases are automatically deducted from your account, there's no interest for you to pay. Your monthly statement will provide you with a record of all of your transactions.
Unlike a Visa credit card, your Visa check card may also be used to withdraw cash from your accounts. This can be done using your personal identification number (PIN) to request cash back when making a purchase. You can also use your check card to withdraw cash from ATM's.
Can I choose my own PIN number?
Yes, when you receive your card in the mail there will be a number to call and activate your card. You can also create/change or reset you PIN at that time.
Is using a check card a safe way to make purchases?
Using your Visa check card for purchases is actually safer than using cash or checks. Visa offers cardholders Zero Liability in cases of card fraud, theft or unauthorized purchases when used in signature based transactions. Additionally, when cardholders sign for purchases they are covered by dispute resolution protection in case there is something wrong with a purchase—something cash or checks can't offer.
